Example Parlays

The Parlay Trap

Parlays compound the bookmaker's edge on every leg. A 2-leg parlay at -110 odds has a 4.5% house edge vs 2.4% on single bets. The more legs you add, the worse your expected value. Parlays are fun but mathematically unfavorable—professional bettors rarely use them.

Better than parlays: Find real edges

Instead of compounding house edge with parlays, find single bets where the odds are in your favor. OddsElite surfaces +EV opportunities across bookmakers.

Understanding Parlays

What is a Parlay?

A parlay (or accumulator) combines multiple bets into one. All selections must win for the parlay to pay out. The odds multiply together, creating higher potential payouts but lower probability of winning. Parlays are popular because small stakes can win large amounts, but this comes at a mathematical cost.

How Parlay Odds Work

Combined Odds = Odds₁ × Odds₂ × Odds₃ × ...

Example: Three legs at 2.00, 1.80, and 1.50

Combined = 2.00 × 1.80 × 1.50 = 5.40

$100 stake returns $540 (profit: $440)

Implied Probability

The implied probability of a parlay winning equals the product of each leg's probability. Three legs at 50% each: 0.50 × 0.50 × 0.50 = 12.5% chance of winning. This is why parlays are hard to hit—probability drops exponentially with each leg added.

When Parlays Make Sense

Parlays can be +EV if you're combining correlated outcomes the bookmaker hasn't properly adjusted for, or if each individual leg has positive expected value. However, finding multiple +EV bets that you're confident in simultaneously is rare. For most bettors, single bets are the smarter choice.
